LATEST NEWS FROM THE ORDINARIATE   HISTORIC COMMUNITY OF ANGLICAN NUNS TO JOIN ORDINARIATE 12 December 2012 A group of Anglican nuns from the Community of St Mary the Virgin (CSMV) in Wantage, Oxfordshire, are to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church in January 2013.  Eleven sisters from the historic Anglican community will join the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, the structure established by Pope Benedict XVI to enable groups of Anglicans to enter into the full communion of the Catholic Church whilst retaining elements of their liturgical, spiritual, and pastoral heritage. The group includes the Superior of the community, Mother Winsome CSMV.  The eleven CSMV sisters, will be joined by Sister Carolyne Joseph, formerly of the Society of St Margaret in Walsingham, who joined the Ordinariate in January 2011. These twelve sisters will initially be established as a Public Association of the Faithful within the Personal Ordinariate. T

"What a Grey day"?

Thank God for The Catholic Church! Bishop Philip Egan, Bishop of Portsmouth has issued the following statement in response to the Prime Minister's comments on the issue of gay marriage: from Independent Catholic News, Sunday 9th December 2012 David Cameron has said that he is an enthusiastic supporter of marriage and that he does not want "gay people to be excluded from a great institution." Yet however well-intentioned, and despite huge opposition from Christians, Jews and Muslims alike, by attempting to change the natural meaning of marriage, he seems utterly determined to undermine one of the key foundations of our society. Such a change is of immense significance. By this change, he is luring the people of England away from their common Christian values and Christian patrimony, and forcing upon us a brave new world, artificially engineered. To "extend marriage to gay people", he intends to impose the will of a tiny min

Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle This evening, (30th November) the Bishop of Brentwood celebrates a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving in his Cathedral Church as he prepares for retirement.  Bishop Thomas Mcmahon Bishop Thomas has been a great friend to the Ordinariate, and those of us in his Diocese, working in his parishes, are extremely grateful for his pastoral care.  When we left the Church of England (almost 2 years ago) we faced an uncertain future. However, in the light of the Apostolic Constitution and the Holy Father's request for generosity on behalf of the English Bishop's, +Thomas appointed the'Brentwood Seven' (now eight) to parishes in Ilford, Clayhall, Eastwood, Benfleet, Colchester, Wickford and Chelmsford. On behalf of my brother priests, we thank the Bishop and wish him a very happy retirement!

We Will Remember Them... This Sunday, 11th November, The Ordinariate Mass at St. Pius X 10.30am. is a Solemn Requiem for the War Dead with an Act of Remembrance. All Welcome. Fr Jeff at Hockley War Memorial... From the Rising of the Sun 'till its setting... When people ask the question: "What is Anglican Patrimony",  the answer surely is:  "The Ordinariate was born for liturgies on days such as these".

7th November 2005

I have been reflecting on the occasion, seven years ago today, when I was formally 'inducted', to the living of the Parish of Hockley as Vicar. Ss. Peter and Paul had been in interregnum for just over 6 months , and after interviews at Wadham College Oxford, (the Parish Patron) and with the Parish Representatives, I was offered the post. I succeeded a priest who restored the Roman Rite, rituals, Resolution 'C' and catholic devotions to the Parish Church. I was faced with a picture of the Pope and The Bishop of Richborough ( Keith Newton) in the Sacristy with a Forward in Faith Candle burning in the chancel: for me, this was a dream! 4 years, almost to the day later, The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith at The Vatican published: Anglicanorum coetibus, the Apostolic constitution containing therein Pope Benedict's vision for unity and truth for those wishing to come on an amazing pilgrimage. We really were going forward in faith! With time to prepare

Our Blessed Patron's Feast Day

Blessed John Henry Newman Priest, founder of a religious community, theologian (1801-1890) This day that has brought us together here in Birmingham is a most auspicious one. In the first place, it is the Lord's Day, Sunday, the day when our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead and changed the course of human history for ever, offering new life and hope to all who live in darkness and in the shadow of death. (...)Yet there is another, more joyful reason why this is an auspicious day for Great Britain, for the Midlands, for Birmingham. It is the day that sees Cardinal John Henry Newman formally raised to the altars and declared Blessed.(...) England has a long tradition of martyr saints, whose courageous witness has sustained and inspired the Catholic community here for centuries. Yet it is right and fitting that we should recognize today the holiness of a confessor, a son of this nation who, while not called to shed his blood for the Lord, nevertheless bore eloquent witness to

NEWS...

LATEST NEWS Leading Church historian to be received into Personal Ordinariate... Dr Edward Norman, the historian and former Canon Chancellor of York Minister, will be received into the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham on Sunday. In an article for this newspaper, Dr Norman explains the reasons for his decision to become a Catholic. He argues that Anglicanism has “no basis for its authority” as its confession “varies from place to place and person to person”. He says: “At the centre of Anglicanism is a great void.” He adds: “The Church of England provides a masterclass in equivocation; it also, however, is the residence of very many good and faithful Christian people who deserve respect – for their perseverance in so many incoherent spiritual adventures. “To leave their company is a wrench; to adhere to the Catholic faith is to join the encompassing presence of a universal body of believers in whose guardianship are the materials of authentic spiritual under

Sunday's celebration of Corpus Christi was kept well at Hockley.  The Ordinariate 10.30am Solemn Mass was well attended and a procession of The Sacred Host through the village is something we could never do at our previous location, with the parish church located well outside of the centre of Hockley!  A great witness then, to the Catholic Faith and belief in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. After mass we enjoyed drinks on the newly constructed sun terrace at St Pius to celebrate our priest's anniversary of ordination.  15 months down the line and it's the best thing we've ever done;members by gracious invitation of his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI of the Holy Catholic Church. When I was Anglican Parish Priest of Hockley we ran a very good website, full of photos showing the vibrancy of our Parish life- (that particular site since closed). My webmaster often informed me of the number of visits it attracted on a weekly basis.  However, this little ol' site has attracted, in under a year over 34,000 hits... that's pretty impressive and it makes me think of the wider audience that we now attract as members of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church?  You know what they say.. .A family that prays together...                            The Hockley Ordinariate Group
